Vegas Memorial Day 2011 Weekend Events

Hiking is great fun in the desert. Just be sure you have all the vital equipment. Just outside of Las Vegas to the west is Red Rock National Park. Here is natural desert beauty with many hiking trails, rock climbing and natural viewing area. To the north east you have Valley of Fire State Park. This is large are filled with hiking, picnic area and many natural rock formations. You hike or drive through the Valley of Fire.

On Saturday, Aug. 31, 9:30-10:45 a.m., All About Yoga is offering a class at no cost. It is a level two beginner’s class that will explore the area between a beginning and intermediate yoga practice.

The other alternative is to sleep in and get in at the breakfast-priced buffet just before lunch items are set out. “Roll-overs” apply to all the buffets with the exception of two in Planet Hollywood, Todai and Spice Market.

Gondoliers can be seen in the canal, and put on a parade at the beginning and end of each day (9:45 a.m. & 4:15 p.m.) The Gondolier March is an opportunity to be serenaded by the Gondoliers as they march through the mall from the Food Court to St. Mark’s Square.

The Freemont Street Experience in another one of a kind must see. Imagine a video screen that is as wide as a street, as long as five football fields, and suspended overhead. Add a six minute themed music and light production and you have Viva Vision. The free shows are presented every hour from 9 to midnight, everyday. With about 15 different shows to choose from, there is plenty of variety. Although this is the headliner, it only begins to describe The Experience.

In front of The fashion show mall you can’t miss the giant flying saucer they call The Cloud, and the giant multimedia billboards with constant video displays. Once inside, you have found the largest shopping experience in all of Nevada, with over 250 retailers anchored by 7 major department stores, and a large Food Court in addition to the regular restaurants.

FISHER SPACE PEN COMPANY – Is located at 711 Yucca Street, Boulder City and it is known for having a zero gravity pen that uses pressured ink cartridges, which are able to write in zero gravity, under water, on wet greasy paper, and at any angle. This pen has mainly been used by NASA on Apollo missions.

Slader now carries bags from Lululemon, an upscale yoga-clothing store, in her car filled with things like bags of nuts, water, socks, and towelettes and passes them out to the homeless people she encounters downtown near her studio in the arts District.
